Who may participate
The Reader Lounge is intended for people age 13 and older. Anyone under 18 should participate only with permission from a parent or guardian. Children under 13 should not post messages or personal information.
Talk about the books, not the person
Disagreement is welcome. Harassment, threats, hate speech, targeted insults, sexual harassment, impersonation, or repeated attempts to provoke another reader are not. Critique ideas and stories without attacking readers or creators.
Protect privacy
Do not post phone numbers, home or work addresses, private email addresses, account credentials, financial information, precise locations, or identifying information about another person. Remember that display names and messages are visible to the public.
Mark spoilers
Use the spoiler option whenever a message reveals a major plot point, ending, death, identity, or surprise. Marked messages remain covered until a reader chooses to reveal them.
No spam or harmful material
Do not advertise, flood rooms, post links, distribute malware, solicit money, promote illegal activity, or upload material that exploits or sexualizes minors. Do not post copyrighted text beyond brief quotations used for discussion.
Reporting and moderation
Use the Report button when a message violates these guidelines. Repeatedly reported messages may be hidden automatically until reviewed. The site owner may hide or remove content, limit participation, or preserve records needed to investigate abuse. Moderation is not guaranteed to be immediate.
Public conversation
The Reader Lounge is not a private messaging service, emergency service, or confidential support channel. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
